TCotA Forum welcomes all students and members of the public.

David ThomasDavid Thomas lives and works in Melbourne. He was born in Belfast N. Ireland. He was educated in Australia studying at Melbourne, Monash and RMIT Universities, Melbourne. He holds an M.A. in Fine Arts and a Ph.D. from RMIT University where he is a Professor of Fine Art (Painting) in the School of Art.

He has been awarded grants from Australia Council, AGNSW, Arts Victoria and residencies (selected) from the Cité International des Arts Paris, France, Two Rooms Gallery Auckland, New Zealand, the Centre for Drawing Research, Wimbledon College of Art, UAL and in 2013 at the Porthmeor Studios St Ives.

His work is represented in private and public collections including: The National Gallery of Victoria, The Australian National Gallery, Canberra. Art Bank, RMIT University, Museum of Modern Art at Heide, Cripp's Collection (Australia and UK), Chartwell Collection, Auckland Art Gallery, N.Z., Canterbury University, Christchurch, N.Z., Lim Lip Museum, Gong Ju, S. Korea, Theodor F. Leifeld Stiftung, Kunstmuseum Ahlen, Germany and the Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany. David has curated many international exhibitions and has written on eastern and western art.

David exhibits widely in Australia, Asia- Pacific and Europe, and his work is represented by Tristian Koenig Gallery, Melbourne and Conny Dietzschold Gallery Sydney, Hong Kong and Cologne.

David's Art Forum presentation is concerned with his reflections on time, duration, and how they manifest in his art. His practice is primarily that of a painter, and he will discuss what informs his work, the condition of Contemporary Painting in general and why he believes contemporary painting is one of the most challenging and relevant art practices to be engaged in today…
