Margaret Woodward and Justy Philips

Margaret Woodward and Justy Phillips began a formal collaboration, A Published Event. in 2015. Through the speculative eventing of everyday life, Woodward and Phillips investigate publishing as art practice through the interstices of body, duration and event. Phillips is an Adjunct Lecturer at TCotA and was awarded her PhD, Scoreography: Compose-with a hole in the heart!  (2015) from RMIT University, Melbourne. Woodward is Associate Professor of Design and is a co-founder and leader of the Creative Regions Lab at Charles Sturt University, NSW. Woodward has a PhD in Design from Curtin University of Technology (2009) and is a member of the Institute of Land, Water and Society at Charles Sturt University.

In this Art Forum, Woodward and Phillips will discuss their ficti┼Źnella Fall of the Derwent, a public artwork commissioned by the Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park as part of the project Swimmable! Reading the River. In this five-part collaborative artwork, the artists develop a way of moving blackwards towards an experimental hydrographic score. In the lead up to the project’s launch event at GASP on November 26th 2016, Woodward and Phillips will use this Art Forum to share the significant moments of this two-year process of publishing as art practice, that includes writing, in-depth archival research, river walking, coding and performance.

This project has been assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts; and by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
