droppedImageFernando do Campo is an artist, writer and curator currently based in Tasmania. Born in Mar del Plata, Argentina in 1987 he migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1997. Fernando do Campo completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts (Visual) at the University of Tasmania in 2007 and received a Bachelor of Visual Arts – Honours from the Australian National University, Canberra in 2008.

Fernando is part of a group of young Australian artists who represent a re-emergence of abstraction within studio painting, he is also very interested in the dialectic between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal painting practises.

Fernando has been included in numerous exhibitions around Australia. Recent solo shows include MySpace/PaintSpace, M16 Artspace, Canberra 2009, Mind The Gap, Inflight ARI, Hobart 2010 and Love it or Lose it (with Emma Beer) Rearview Gallery, Melbourne 2010. Curatorial projects include The Oyster’s Locale, Junction Arts Festival (JAF) 2010, Launceston and Raquel Ormella’s solo commission I live with Birds as part of Iteration: Again CAST Gallery, 2011.

Fernando lives and works in Launceston where he is currently Director of Sawtooth ARI, teaches Art Theory at the SVPA, University of Tasmania and is represented by Colville Gallery, Hobart.
