"Decoding Contemporary Art"

Dr Jane Deeth is a freelance curator, arts writer and educator.

She has taught art theory at the Art School, design theory at the Furniture School and now teaches arts administration at the Polytechnic.

Jane also runs New Audiences for Art, an audience development consultancy working with arts organisations on public programs relating to contemporary art.

In 2009 Jane received her doctorate with a thesis entitled Extracting Meaning from Strangeness: Strategies to enhance viewer engagement with contemporary art in the public art museum.

She has a chapter in Exhibition Design for Galleries and Museums: an insider's view, published by Museums Australia Victoria last year and next month Looking at Landscape, a publication for the Glover Prize will be published.

The forum "Decoding Contemporary Art" will address ideas that relate to these writings.
