Title of Presentation: Visualizing the Intrigue of Slippery Meaning

Abstract
My fascination is with the intrigue of slippery visual meaning. Drawing inspiration from Walter Benjamin’s thoughts in literary form, my work is generated to visually ‘distract’ the viewer with several simultaneous associations, ranging from 5th century mosaics to the contemporary art world. It is this ‘transhistorical’ aspect that underpins the visual tension that encompasses the ‘now’ and our collective ‘past’. In responding to issues on porosity and slippage of meaning, transparent polymer is used to create volume that actively engages with negative space.
