Dr Sue Henderson

Vertical realities: the poetics of verticality

Sue will present and discuss the development of the artwork for the Robinson College Chapel, reflect on influences and the Cambridge experience. Solo exhibitions from 2013 will be discussed where specific aspects of the exhibition sites were incorporated in large scale painting installations. Works on paper were pasted directly on to the walls, columns and architectural features of an art gallery space (Papering the landscape: re-visioning Cataract Gorge, NEW Gallery, UTAS) and urban laneway (Re-framing, Urban Arts Trail) and a stripped mechanics shop (Wallpapered Topographies, Outward project, Launceston).

Dr Sue Henderson works with various media on paper ranging from large scale ink paintings to ephemeral works. Her arts practice references ways of interacting with places, with recent work exploring the perceptions of a rock climber in the landscape. Sue was recipient of a University medal in 2006, graduated with a PhD in visual arts in 2010 and currently co-ordinates the drawing and painting studios at the Tasmanian College of the Arts, Inveresk. In addition to her own arts practice, Sue collaborates with David Marden and Penny Mason in a group known as art3.
