Noelene LucasNoelene Lucas on her work-video, environment and history.

Noelene Lucas is a video installation artist with a background in Sculpture, whose work investigates the links between the everyday, the environment and the numinous. She has been curated into major exhibitions in Australia, Europe and Asia, awarded three major Australia Council Grants, residencies in Thailand, Paris and two Australia Council Tokyo residencies, the later deeply affecting her life, art practice and created the foundation for her PhD.  Recent activities include Convener of the Williams River Valley Artist Project and a member of the Longford Project.

Noelene is here at the University of Tasmania to research and further develop work from her involvement in the Longford Project. In this group the participants engage with their family histories and the Longford residents memories and their family histories, the research seeks to identify the relationship of these family stories to the larger political and cultural histories of Tasmania and Australia developing a philosophy of history and an the ethics of responsibility for the present made possible by the past.

She will discuss her earlier work and her current work with the Williams River Valley Artists Project and the Longford Project.

TCotA Forum is a series of free public lectures held at the Tasmanian College of the Arts (Inveresk). Students and members of the public are welcome to attend. Lectures are presented by staff, visiting scholars from Tasmania, mainland Australia and overseas, industry professionals and artists-in-residence.
