Fernando do CampoA digital Retrospective of the 2013 Venice Biennale -(a tribute to my Romanian friends)

Fernando do Campo (b. Mar del Plata, Argentina, 1987) is an artist, writer and curator currently based in Tasmania, Australia. He is a graduate of both the Tasmanian College of the Arts (UTAS) and the School of Art (ANU, Canberra) From 2009-2013 he was the Founding Director of Sawtooth ARI. Fernando has been involved in group exhibitions nationally and internationally, as well as presenting solo exhibitions at Firstdraft ARI, Sydney, tcb Art Inc. Melbourne, Devonport Regional Gallery and Academy Gallery, UTAS. He is currently preparing for a solo exhibition at the Northern Centre of Contemporary Art (NCCA), Darwin and a permanent commission for Salamanca Place, Hobart. Fernando has been hosted as an artist-in-residence by the Cite International des Arts, Paris (2012) and BMUKK, Austrian Ministry of Culture, Vienna (2013). He has received numerous grants and awards, including a JUMP Mentorship with artist-curator Paul O’Neill (UK) and an Artstart grant (both from the Australia Council for the Arts) He was named Young Tasmanian of the Year (Arts) in 2013. Fernando is the 2014 Inaugural John Monash Foundation Cultural Scholar, and will use this towards an MFA at Parsons, The New School, New York.

Through a partnership between Arts Tasmania and the Australia Council for the Arts, Fernando was the Team Leader at the Australian Pavilion, during the vernissage month of the 55thVenice Biennale, Italy, 2013. Fernando will talk about his experience at last year’s Venice Biennale.

TCotA Forum is a series of free public lectures held at the Tasmanian College of the Arts (Inveresk). Students and members of the public are welcome to attend. Lectures are presented by staff, visiting scholars from Tasmania, mainland Australia and overseas, industry professionals and artists-in-residence.
