OzfrankWhat is Ozfrank Theatre Film?

Based in Brisbane, Australia. Started in 1992.
Motto 'For those with spirit'
Twenty film and theatre productions, generally classics distilled and refracted. Entire cultural footprint based on the collective training of the company actors in the Frank Suzuki Actor Knowhow (FSAK) (western variant of the Suzuki Method of Actor Training)
Performed and taught world-wide...Mongolia to Chicago with many stops in between.
Not 'physical' theatre but based on the instinctive conjoining of voice and body through training.
Formerly government funded now low budget vanity projects.
Design aesthetic based on found and recycled materia.
Actors drawn from a casual worldwide collective, all trained extensively in FSAK.
Don't do plays as literary impersonations, re-enactments or talking books.
Make theatre in which the mind is subordinate to the visceral moment/journey.

Why Antonin Artaud?

1896 to 1948
Did for theatre what Van Gogh did for painting.
Brought genuine oriental sensibilities to the occident.
First Westerner to place primacy on the body.
First Westie to break with the sanctity of the word.
Like Van Gogh and Nijinsky went nuts 'cause he was too far ahead of the pack.
Enemy Number 1 of bourgeois theatre.
Opium addict from the age of 18.
Life of extreme and almost unrelieved trauma ending with 9 years in the rubber room.
Underwent 52 sessions of shock therapy.
Theatre ideas so extreme as to be un-performable until Butoh.
So wild he made surrealists, fauvists, futurists et al look like pussies.
Smashed open the door and Sartre, Beckett and POMO sailed on through.

What Artaud?

Artaud de Facteau is an hallucinatory portrait of To Have Done With the Judgment of God.

Artaud de Facteau will be showing at the Annexe Theatre, 21 - 24 April 2015 | 7pm. Matinee performance on 24 April | 2pm.
