Professor Dorita HannahPRACTICING IN THE HYPHENATED ZONE
ARCHITECTURE – PERFORMANCE – INTERIOR – EXHIBITION – THEATRE – SPATIAL – THEORY

UTAS's new Professor, Dorita Hannah, has previously established and led courses in Spatial and Performance Design, which are interdisciplinary programs that draw on the visual, spatial and performing arts in order to expand how we conceive and create real and imagined objects, images and environments. In this presentation Dr Hannah will share an overview of her practice-led research, which operates in what she describes as 'the hyphenated zone'.

Through live events and installations she explores terms such as as Event-Space, Sceno-Architecture, Performance-Landscape and Table-Talk, offering 'spacing' as a discursive strategy for creating and experiencing environments, objects and events – both actual and virtual. Acknowledging the alternating and overlapping realities of architecture, interior, exhibition, installation, urban and event design, Dr Hannah utilizes embodied investigations to play with the varying spatiotemporalities of reality and imagination: reminding us that, no matter how empty or static they seem, spaces and things are extensive, mobile, multiple and highly volatile.

Professor Dorita Hannah (PhD) is a trans-disciplinary practitioner/scholar who focuses on design performativity and performance design. Consulting with communities on cultural environments, she also collaborates with artists, designers and organizations to co-conceive, design and direct installations, exhibitions and events. She has published on practices that negotiate between architecture, art and design, including her own trans-disciplinary work in Australia, Europe and the USA, and is currently Research Commissioner for OISTAT, Research Curator for World Stage Design, Curator for Fluid States and Theory Curator for the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space.
