Julia Drouhin | Social frictions and geophonic processes

The Influence of Context on the Handmade Ceramic Vessel

Exploring public spaces through their sonic dimension, Julia Drouhin will present her Musical Mall Clock for Junction Festival, a radio installation being prepared during a 5 weeks residency at the Kings Bridge Cottage. She will talk about sound art, tribology, chocolate music, women artists, do-it-yourself techniques, performance and collaborative processes.

Julia Drouhin is a French artist, curator and academic based in Tasmania who explores friction in sociality through radioscapes, installations and collaborative performances. Her site specific playgrounds reshape common mythologies using field recordings, textiles, edible or found objects. Her work had been presented in galleries, art centers and festivals in Europe, Brazil and Australia, as well as broadcast on airwaves and online radio. She is an associate researcher for LAMU (Urban Music and Acoustic Laboratory), member of WAN (Walking Artists Network) and committee member of IRARG (International Radio Art Research Group). She completed her PhD in aesthetics, sciences and technology about the art of walking and radio performances at the University of Paris 8 (France-2011).
