Božena Steinerová has played the piano since her fourth year and gave her first concert aged nine. She studied at the Prague Conservatorium and from 1966 to 1971 at Prague's Academy of Music. From 1971-3, Božena was invited to undertake post-graduate studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatorium in Moscow where she studied with Professor Rudolf Kehrer. Later, she attended master classes with Paul Badura-Skoda and Alfred Brendel.

Božena has performed in London at Wigmore Hall, in Paris, Berlin, Cologne, Singapore, Nairobi, Tokyo, Havanna, Dresden, Bamberg and Regensburg. She has played with orchestras such as the Czech Philharmonic, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, Cologne Philharmonic and others.

From 1973 to 1977, Božena was a teacher at Prague's Conservatorium and held the position of Professor in Prague's Academy of Music from 1980 to 1985. Božena emigrated to West Germany in 1985 and continued her performing and teaching activities. From 1993 to 1999 she was Associate Professor at Regensburg University. Her students have won prizes at prestigious competitions throughout Europe. She has recorded a number of CDs including Elgar's Piano Quintet, works by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Prokofiev, Brahms, Liszt Tchaikovsky, Eben and Janáček. Božena also premiered piano compositions by notable Czech composer, Jindřich Feld that were dedicated to her.
