Helminthotheca ( formerly known as part of Picris; Asteraceae) 2:390
Helminthotheca echioides (= Picris echiodes; Bristly Ox-Tongue) is a common weed species. It is a largish, erect plant that feels quite rough because of the bristle-like hairs on the leaves, stems and phyllaries. The phyllaries are distinctive - with the outer row of broad phyllaries and the upright inner row of narrow ones.
