Tasmania
has one species of Monimiaceae - Hedycarya angustifolia. It is a
native tree or large shrub that can be
found in wet forest (including rainforest) on King Island. It is
also common in wet forest in Victoria and New South Wales. It has
opposite, serrate margined leaves. The flowers
are disc-like and usually unisexual.
Atherosperma moschatum was previously placed in
Monimiaceae, but is now recognised as a member of a new family, Atherospermataceae.
