Tasmania has
two introduced species of Cakile (Sea Rocket). They grow on
beaches and are characterised by their thick, succulent leaves,
large, white-purple flowers. C. edulenta is widespread on
coasts and has entire leaves. C. maritima is more common on
the Bass Strait islands. Its leaves (at least the lower ones) are
pinnately divided.
The two species are sometimes difficult to discriminate and some
intermediate forms may be hybrids. |
