The
family is represented in Tasmania by five or six native species and
one or two introduced species. The plants have more or less succulent
leaves and symmetrical flowers with 2 sepals and 4-6 petals (all free).
Montia fontana and M. australasica are semi aquatic
herbs, the other species include herbs from a range of habitats including
saltmarshes and dry areas.
