Carpobrotus
species are spreading succulent plants of dry places (especially
coasts). They have thick, angled and elongate leaves. Like many Aizoaceae, these species have numerous coloured
"petals" (in fact staminodes). Tasmania has one native
species (C. rossii), which is common in
coastal areas. Tasmania also has two introduced species, which are
usually larger and differ in flower colour, but are otherwise
resemble C.
