Athrotaxis (Cupressaceae) 1:6 |
|
|
|
Tasmania has
two native species of Athrotaxis. These are both species of
relatively undisturbed, cool, wet regions of central and western Tasmania.
King Billy Pine (A. selaginoides) is a rainforest tree
(rarely reaching into the alpine zone) with spreading leaves. Pencil
Pine (A. cupressoides) is a subalpine-alpine tree or shrub
(rarely found as a montane rainforest tree). The naturally occurring
hybrid of these species (A. Xlaxifolia) has sometimes
been recognised as a separate species. |
