Tasmania
has three species of Cyathodes. These are largish, erect
shrubs with leaves in false whorls, large flowers and (for epacrids)
quite large leaves. The three species can be segregated on leaf size
and habitat. Until recently, the genus also contained species now in three other
genera: Planocarpa,
Leptecophylla and
Montitega.
The first genus is of small, erect alpine species with leaves
uniformly spread up the stems. The second includes a range of
species, mostly with very narrow, sharply pointed leaves. The
exception is L. abietina, which is a thick leaved species of
exposed coasts. The last is a mat forming alpine plant.
