Marchantia berteroana is a common weedy native thalloid liverwort species.
It is a common colonizer of burnt ground and can be found in large
quantities after a forest fire along with other primary colonizers
like Funaria hygrometrica and Ceratodon. It is also
common in gardens and pots in nurseries. The underside of the
thallus is covered by transparent scales which extend more or less
up to the thallus margins.
