Marchantia foliacea (Marchantiaceae)

Marchantia foliacea is a common thalloid liverwort species found in wet environs, particularly on rocks or banks near waterfalls or streams. The ventral surface has two rows of crimson scales that run closely to the middle of the thallus.

An additional species, Marchantia pileata, which is recorded for Tasmania may be a variant of M. foliacea.
