Marchantia
polymorpha is an exceedingly common weedy species found in
gardens and in pots of potted plants. It has a distinctive purple
coloration along the middle of the thallus.
Two varieties are known. Marchantia polymorpha var.
polymorpha and M. polymorpha var. aquatica.
