Melaleuca species (formerly known as Callistemon species; Myrtaceae) not in the Student's Flora

A cultivated variety of Melaleuca appears to have become established in a few places in Tasmania (e.g. near Pipers River). It is a large, shrub with hard, largish leaves. The flowers are red and in conspicuous "bottle brushes". The fruit are woody, sessile and persistent along the branches.
