The Amblystegiaceae in Tasmania consists of 6 genera and 8 species in Tasmania.
Members of this family are slender to robust mosses which
typically grow in very wet habitats,
regularly in ditches. They are characterized by having very long
stems which branch irregularly. The capsules are curved and are
usually borne on a very long stalk (seta).
The common species
Acrocladium
chlamydophyllum used to be placed under this family but has
been transferred to the
Lembophyllaceae.
