Tasmania has 10
introduced species of bromes (Bromus spp.). These include
some widespread and abundant weeds. The inflorescences are
more-or-less open panicles. The leaves are flat and often hairy, the
ligule is a membrane. The spikelets are flattened from side to side
and have several flowers. The lemmas of most species have awns,
which may be up to 60mm long. Bromus wildenowii is also
known as prairie grass. B. hordaceous is soft brome. |
