Gastridium (Poaceae) 4b:280    
Gastridium ventricosum (nit grass) is an uncommon weed of agricultural and urban areas. It is an erect annual species. The inflorescence is a dense spike-like panicle. The spikelets have a single flower and have the distinctive feature that the glumes are thick, hard, much larger than the florets and have narrow section in the middle. The lemma has a quite a long awn attached well below the top.
