Tasmania has
five introduced species of Lolium (rye grasses). These are
erect annual grasses. The inflorescence is quite distinctive - the spikelets
are flattened sideways, and are sessile on an unbranched, zig-zag
stem. Some species have conspicuous awns, others not. Lolium
perenne is perennial ryegrass. L. rigidum is Wimmera
ryegrass. |
