Nardus stricta is an uncommon introduced species known from disturbed swampy areas in the the West Coast region.

It is a wiry plant with densely packed shoots. The inflorescence is a short, erect spike with spikelets in two rows on one side of the spike. The spikelets have only one flower with a short awn, and one or two tiny glumes.
