Pentapogon quadrifidus is a widespread and quite common native grass that grows in a range of more-or-less open habitats. It is a slender annual species with narrow leaves. The inflorescence is a fairly loose panicle. The spikelets have a single flower and have the distinctive feature that the lemmas have five awns.
