Key to Tasmanian Dicots

Trithuria filamentosa  (formerly known as Hydatella filamentosa; Hydatellaceae) 4b:361
Trithuria filamentosa is a very small plant that forms tiny cushions in shallow water. It grows in subalpine and alpine lakes and tarns. The plants resemble mosses or tiny sedge or grass tufts (e.g. Centrolepidaceae plants or tiny Isolepis species). The leaves are grass-like and only 1-2 cm long. The flowers are tiny, in few-flowered heads at the ends of erect stems that reach only about as far as the leaves.

Trithuria is included among the monocots in this key because of superficial similarity, but in fact they are more closely related to the water lilies.
