Trithuria
submersa is a very small plant that grows in
shallow water. It grows mostly in the intermittent lagoons of the
Midlands. The plants resemble tiny sedge or grass tufts, but are
more diffuse than their relatives, Trithuria . The leaves are grass-like and only 1-2 cm long. The
flowers are tiny, in few-flowered heads at the ends of erect stems
that reach only about as far as the leaves. Although Trithuria
is included among the monocots in this key
because of superficial similarity,
they are
in fact more closely related to the water lilies. |
