OPHIOGLOSSACEAE

Tasmania has two native species of the family Ophioglossaceae. This family is a very distinctive and unusual group of ferns. One genus has sporangia in a spike or cone-like frond, and leaves on the ground. The other has fronds that split into two branches - one leaflike, the other similar in form but fertile.
