Pteridium esculentum (Dennstaedtiaceae) |
|
|
Bracken (Pteridium
esculentum) is the only member of this genus in Tasmania. It is a widespread and abundant species of fern
that grows in dry or disturbed places, especially on sandy soils.
The quite large, harsh, dark green fronds are distinctive. It is
often replaced by Histiopteris incisa or Hypolepis
rugosula in disturbed sites in high rainfall areas. |
