Tasmania has
three introduced genera in the Amaryllidaceae, Amaryllis
(Belladonna Lily or Naked Ladies), Narcissus
(Daffodils and Jonquils) and Leucojum (Snowflakes).
Each are both quite robust herbs with long, narrow leaves arising
from bulbs (though Amaryllis is often leafless when
flowering).
These genera were once considered to be part of Liliaceae, which was
a very artificial grouping of plants and has therefore been
splintered in numerous families. To see the fates of the other
Tasmanian genera formerly in Liliaceae click
