Information for Prospective Graduate Research Students
The National Centre for Marine Conservation & Resources Sustainability (NCMCRS) welcomes and promotes the presence
of MSc and PhD students. Our staff and students conduct
research in a range of pure and applied areas. Please
visit the NCMCRS Staff pages to find out about our research
areas and possible research projects that maybe of interest
to you.
We offer two programs for research higher degree training:
MSc Research - this is a 2 year program,
which has particular emphasis on the research methodology
appropriate to the field of study. This provides the opportunity
to develop potential for research.
PhD - this is a longer program of study
and requires a greater degree of originality and theoretical
contribution than the MSc. This program is suitable for students
who have some research training either at Honours or Masters
level or are employed in a position in which there is substantial
research activity. Evidence of previous research activity
is either a thesis or papers published in an peer-reviewed
journal. It is possible to up-grade from a MSc Research to
PhD after 12 months of research
PhD students complete 36 calendar months of full-time
research or its part-time equivalent.
Potential Graduate
Research Projects
A list of potential projects for you to consider is available
with the email address of the supervisor. However, if an area
of research is of interest to you, then contact the staff
member and discuss possible projects.
Scholarships
Students will typically need to apply for a scholarship that
will provide a stipend if you are a domestic student and also
for fees if you are an international student.
There are a number of sources of scholarships and a good
starting point is to look at the University
Scholarship page. You can also check with JASON,
which is the Postgraduate Scholarship Database for Australia.
Occasionally the School will be able to offer scholarships
for specific projects through the Finfish CRC or TAFI.
Keep a watch on these pages for more information.
We look forward to talking with you about studying
with us in the NCMCRS. |
