| The School of Aquaculture
is at the forefront of teaching and research in Aquaculture.
It was the first and largest University school in the
Southern Hemisphere and welcomes students to a wide
range of courses that lead to careers in the aquaculture
industry as well as in broader areas of aquatic biology
such as teaching, policy, conservation and research.
The School of Aquaculture has leading teaching and
research facilities, including the most complete on-campus
aquaculture centre and aquaculture research laboratories
in the country. Take a closer look with our tour of
the facilities.
The School is
a major partner in the Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries
Institute (TAFI) with access to the Marine Research
Laboratories at Taroona and the Fish Health Unit in
Launceston for students’ professional
placement and research projects. Staff work with a
range of commercial partners including salmon, tuna
and oyster farms, conservation groups, tourist ventures,
technology developers, and aquafeed manufacturers.
The School of Aquaculture provides a stimulating learning
environment that enables students to develop scientific
and practical skills that are both commercially relevant
and that allow a broader career in aquatic biology.
Students come from
all over the world to study with us and this provides
all our students with a rich international experience.
