ARC/NHMRC Salary Gaps
Effective from 01-Jan-1999 all appointments on the Academic Salary
rates above an Academic Level A Step 06 (ARC) or Academic Level
A Step 01 (NHMRC) will incur in a salary gap. This gap is due
to a condition set down in the grant document that sets out how
the grant will be funded. These conditions also prevent the gap
from being funded from an ARC/NHMRC grant account.
The gap amount is the difference between the ARC/NHMRC approved
salary rates and the salary rates applicable at the University
of Tasmania plus on-costs. Advice has been forwarded to all Schools
(by the Research and Development Office) advising them that a
second account needs to be nominated when requesting an appointment
against an ARC or NHMRC grant account where this salary gap exists.
A staffing appointment cannot proceed past the funds availability
process until the entire cost of the appointment has been confirmed.
The following items will only reduce the amount of the salary
gap and will not stop a salary gap existing:-
- Reducing the length of the appointment
- Reducing the fraction of the appointment
