Casual Payroll process changes in 2006

Casual Claims and claiming period

From January 2006 the University of Tasmania will be implementing system changes for employees paid under the casual payroll. These changes will affect how you should be claiming for hours worked and the correct taxation of those hours by our payroll system. To ensure that you complete your casual claim forms correctly and thus are taxed in the correct manner please follow the following guidelines:

  • The period of the claim should be for a period of not greater than two weeks.

  • Where a period greater than two weeks is to be claimed, this should be completed using multiple claim forms noting the relevant period of each claim.

  • Manual tax adjustments will not be performed. Casual Claim forms will be processed to the system using the period end date advised on the claim and will be taxed correctly in the period that that date relates to.

Other Information

While we have this opportunity we would also like to highlight the following information with respect to the Casual Payroll process:

  • The Casual Employment Authority must be signed and returned to Human Resources so that it can be processed prior to forwarding any claims against that authority to the Pay Office. The Casual Claim form cannot be paid until the Authority has been processed.

  • The Casual Claim form needs to be completed with the appropriate Casual Employment Authority number and FMIS Account number.

  • Work performed after the expiry of the Casual Authority cannot be paid on the current authority and a new authority will need to be completed and sent through to Human Resources to facilitate payment.

  • When appointing staff against FMIS accounts please ensure that the appropriate salary and on-cost lines have been opened in the project prior to sending through any appointment details. Due to some accounts having funding restrictions on the types of expenditure able to be incurred this request has to come from the School/Budget Centre. We do not have FMIS access to add account lines. Requests should be sent to Financial.Management@utas.edu.au.
