The University has entered into an agreement with LeasePlan Australia to enable eligible UTAS staff the opportunity to salary package a motor vehicle by way of a novated lease. A novated lease is an arrangement between a staff member, their employer
(UTAS) and LeasePlan. It enables staff to lease a vehicle of their choice (Conditions apply for Government CarPlan) by using the tax effective benefit of financing the vehicle and its operating cost from pre tax salary. All leases are on a fully maintained basis including insurance provided by LeasePlan. UTAS staff on continuing appointments or fixed term appointments with a minimum of 1 year remaining on contract are eligible to participate.
The staff member retains ultimate responsibility to make any payments under the lease in the event that they leave their employer or if their employer fails to make payments on their behalf or their personal circumstances change. (ie leave without pay, study leave, overseas travel).
As with all salary packaging/sacrifice arrangements, staff are strongly encouraged to seek independent financial and taxation advice before entering into any salary package arrangement such as a novated
vehicle lease, to ensure it suits an individual's personal and financial circumstances. UTAS will not offer any financial or taxation advice about the suitability, benefits or risks of salary packaging
