Dr Shayne Breen, lecturer in Aboriginal Studies

  • Major Teaching Areas:

    Tasmanian Aboriginal History, Australian Aboriginal Autobiography, and Australian Aboriginal History.

  • Major research interests centre on:

    Colonial Tasmania and embrace Aboriginal History, Histories of Place, and Environmental History. Shayne has also lately developed a major interest in the practice of Family History.

  • Recent publications include:

    Books:

    Colonial Encounters: place, power & social law from Aboriginal times to 1900, Centre for Tasmanian Historical Studies, (Hobart), in press, due 1999. (80,000 words).

    Articles:

    Nature, Culture & Sense of Place in Tasmania's Northern Districts: integrating social and environmental history, solicited by The Public Historian, (University of California Press) currently undergoing peer review.
