JAPAN: KIERKEGAARD SOCIETY IN JAPAN (KYOTO):
The Kierkegaard Society was re-established in Kyoto on 5.5.2000. (Cf. IKN 158). A meeting was held that day at which three researchers presented their papers: Hiroko Otoshi: Subjectivity and Paradox by Kierkegard; Satoshi Eguchi: Kierkegaard and Privacy; Yoshio Kawai: Kierkegaard and German Literature in the 20th Century. THE ASSOCIATION OF SØREN KIERKEGAARD STUDY (IKN 158)
is organized under the Kierkegaard Society in Japan (Kyoto). The group holds several meetings a year and has meetings for reading Kierkegaard texts and other Danish writings. It also introduces to members new trends in international Kierkegaard study. The group met on 6.5.00, with papers by: Makoto Fujieda and Tsuru Shinichi. Makoto Fujieda introduced Walter R. Dietz's paper: 'Kierkegaard im Licht der neueren internationalen Forschung' and Tsuru Shinichi introduced the debate between Sylvia Walsh's 'Reading Kierkegaard with Kierkegaard against Garff' and Joakim Garff's 'Reading Oneself'. CALL FOR PAPERS: KIERKEGAARD: BETWEEN ETHICS AND RELIGION.
The Second International Conference of the Søren Kierkegaard Society of the U.K., University of Leeds, 5 - 8 July, 2001. Scheduled speakers include: John D. Caputo, C. Stephen Evans, M. Jamie Ferreira, Joakim Garff, Daphne Hampson, Andras Nagy, George Pattison, Roger Poole, Merold Westphal. This conference aims to bring together representatives of some of a wide diversity of hermeneutical traditions to explore dimensions of the ethical and religious significance, and contemporary relevance, of Kierkegaard's thought. As well as plenary sessions, it is planned to hold several symposia on connections between Kierkegaard and other thinkers, and possibly on aspects of particular texts within the Kierkegaardian corpus.

Kierkegaard and Hermeneutics and Kierkegaard and Communication
. Keynote address: Alastair Hannay. Papers' reading length: 20 mins. only. There will be a dissertation panel discussion for scholars writing dissertations or who have just finished. To submit a paper or dissertation proposal please send two copies of either the complete paper or a detailed abstract by February 15, 2001. Complete papers must be submitted by 1st April, 2001. Anyone interested in acting as a commentator should also contact the conference organizers: Gordon Marino (see address below). The Seminario Ibero-Americano: Escritos de Søren Kierkegaard (Spanish Translation Seminar) will meet during the conference to discuss O bien o bien I and II. Total conference costs are expected to be max. $250. Room and board for one night, 3 meals for a single person in a single air-conditioned room are about $50. Final registration deadline ca. May 15, but please contact the conference organizers sooner rather than later.
Summer fellowships for research-in-residence are offered to scholars for use of the collection between June 1 and November 15. The awards include campus housing and a $250.00 per month stipend for anyone who does not have financial support from their home institution. There are also a limited number of fellowships available during the winter and spring (Kierkegaard House Foundation). To apply for a fellowship, please send Gordon Marino a research proposal, c.v., and 2 letters of recommendation. Please specify the dates when you would like to use the library.
