What is Reserve and eReserve
Reserve is a collection of high demand
items found in each of the library branches. These items are
generally available for 2 hour or overnight loan. Advance bookings for Reserve items can be made via the Library catalogue.
eReserve is a collection of high demand,
full-text electronic journal articles and book chapters accessible
through the library catalogue. You will be prompted for
your email name and password for authentication.
Items held in Reserve
- Books from the Library's loan collection
- Prescribed texts
- Readers
- Tapes of lectures
- Slide sets
- Private items supplied by lecturers
- Any other items owned by the Library, University or lecturers
that can be placed legally in Reserve
Note: Photocopies of journal articles and book chapters will
be progressively digitised from the 1st January 2004
as eReserve documents.

Finding Reserve items using the catalogue
Each item in Reserve is listed in the catalogue and has information
about the library location followed by 'Res' for the Reserve collection.
Search the catalogue by:
Books and audiovisual items
Book Chapters
- title of the book
- editor(s) / author(s) of the book
Note: Do not search by the title or author of the chapter.
Journal articles
- title of the article
- author(s) of the article
Note: If you do not find the article listed in the catalogue,
try searching by the title of the journal. The article may not
be in Reserve but the journal may be in the Serial collection.
Examination papers, Readers, Lecture notes, Reading
Lists
Note: These items have the unit code as the beginning of the
title. For instance, LAW 101 : introduction to law : exam
papers (There is a space between the alphabetic and numeric
parts of the unit code)
