Assistance and Training for
all University Library users
Our training options include:
- Orientation sessions for students
30 minute introduction to the Library for new students. The
sessions cover searching the catalogue, borrowing, using the
Reserve collection, and where to get help. These sessions
are usually run in Orientation Week and the first two
weeks of semesters. They are also available year round for new
groups of international students, and other groups by request.
- Multi-session programs for academic staff, researchers
and post-graduate students
Develop or refresh your skills in using the Library's electronic
resources in three sessions, each of 2 hours. Enrol in any or
all of the following sessions.
- Overview - choosing a database, search strategies, and
electronic journals.
- Current Contents and Web of Science - citation databases,
saving search strategies and setting up alerts.
- Introduction to EndNote -saving and using bibliographic
references
Make a booking
- Subject specific sessions for student groups
Custom-designed training which will improve undergraduate
or honours students' information skills and their familiarity
with Library resources in a particular subject area. Sessions
usually:
- are designed in close consultation with academic staff
- have a hands-on component for participants
- focus on using the catalogue, databases and e-journals
- can be centred round a current assignment topic to maximize
learning
Sessions can be run in the Library's Education Room or
Elearning Lab, or in a Faculty or School's own computer lab.
They are best held a few weeks into the start of a Semester.
Lecturers should contact their School's Liaison
Librarian to make a booking.
- Individual training
Morris Miller Library staff are happy to provide personal one-to-one
assistance at a time that suits your schedule. Please contact
the Library if you'd like an individual session.
- New staff Library introductions
If you're a new member of staff, we'll be pleased to give you
an overview and personal tour of the library. Contact your School's
Liaison Librarian . Current
staff - please tell any new colleagues about this service.
- Online tutorials.
Library eTutor provides
interactive, self-paced library and information skills tutorials
available to all students and staff, both on and off campus.
