Borrowing from other University Libraries

Victorian Academic Libraries

If you are studying or working at UTAS while living in, or visiting, Victoria, then you are eligible to become a member of a large number of Victorian academic libraries via a reciprocal borrower program that UTAS has with CAVAL (a Victorian Academic Libraries Cooperative).

The list of libraries that you are eligible to join through this program can be found at: http://www.caval.edu.au/libraries.html

How do I apply for the program?

Complete a CAVAL registration form

Take your UTAS ID card and the completed registration form to any UTAS Library and you will be provided with a CAVAL Borrowing Card

If you are living in Victoria you can scan and email the form to Flexible@lib.utas.edu.au, or post the completed registration form to Flexible Library Services, Locked Bag 1312, Launceston 7248. A CAVAL Borrowing Card will be sent you via Australia Post.

Please note that you must clear any library fines that you have with UTAS or other university libraries before you will be issued with a CAVAL Borrowing Card.

How do I join a Victorian Academic Library?

Once you have obtained your CAVAL Borrowing Card you will need to take this to the library or libraries that you wish to join, along with your student card (or proof of enrolment) and proof of your current address. If you are applying to a library outside of business hours it is advisable to ring the library first to ensure that you can join after hours.

If you wish to join libraries in several different institutions you will need to join up with each one individually (but using the same CAVAL Borrowing Card).

Registration with each library is on an annual basis. You will need to apply for a new CAVAL Borrowing Card from UTAS and register with each library at the beginning of each year of study.

Each library will have its own rules and conditions so you will need to become familiar with these.
