Distinguishing features: Small rosettes growing on open ground especially in wet, subalpine areas. The leaves have daggy tufts of white hairs. The stalks holding the flowers are submerged between the leaves, but poke out when the fruits develop. There are only one or a few flowers (or fruit) per stalk.
