Distinguishing features: Cylindrical, rarely branched, slightly glaucous, straight stems with leaves reduced to several sheathing scales up the stems and compact . The stems are thicker (1.5 -3 mm) than most other Restionaceae (e.g. Leptocarpus tenax stems tend to be about 1.5 mm thick). Grows in subalpine peaty vegetation.
