Career Summary
Anita is currently a CRC ORE Research Fellow at the School of Earth Sciences, working with Professor Bernd Lottermoser on the Environmental Indicators program. This research work is also incorporated within CODES ARC Centre of Excellence Program 4 - Theme 1 (see research projects listed below).
Anita completed a PhD in Environmental Geochemistry at CODES. Significant research outcomes from Anita's thesis include the development of both the 'geochemistry-mineralogy-texture' (GMT) approach and the acid rock drainage index (ARDI) for texturally assessing acid forming potential. Anita was awarded an SEG Graduate Student Fellowship (2008), an SEG Research Grant (2009) and an Enviromine scholarship (2009) during her PhD candidature.
Previously, Anita obtained a 1st class MSc (Hons) degree from Imperial College, University of London in Environmental Geology (2005). Anita was awarded Imperial's Warington Smythe Medal and a nomination for the UK Young Scientist of the Year (2005) for her published MSc research. Professionally, Anita has worked as an environmental consultant (2005-06) and as a research assistant for the AMIRA P843 geometallurgy project (2006-07). Anita regularly consults with mining companies and the government organisations regarding ARD prediction strategies.
Research Activity
Anita's current research focuses on development of computed tests for predicting mineral-water reactions, particularly those which lead to the formation of acid rock drainage (ARD). Anita continues to evaluate the influences of mineralogy and texture on acid formation, and is doing so using novel analytical tools and techniques. Anita is also undertaking projects at nominated case study sites whereby environmental geometallurgy techniques and the best practice GMT approach are being implemented, both of which were developed as part of Anita's PhD research.
