Master of Economic Geology – Offered by CODES
The coursework-based Master of Economic Geology degree (MEconGeol, UTAS course code: S7R) is obtained by completing 8 two-week intensive coursework units over a minimum 2 year period, or 6 coursework units and a thesis worth 25%. Available courses cover a range of topics relevant to mineral deposit genesis, exploration and mining and are taught by the CODES ARC Centre of Excellence at the University of Tasmania (CODES), the University of Western Australia (CET), James Cook University (EGRU) and Curtin University (WASM), as part of a national program, the Minerals Geoscience Masters.
Entry requirements are a BSc(Hons) majoring in the geosciences or a BSc (majoring in geosciences) and at least two-years subsequent full-time work experience in the minerals industry. A coursework-only degree does not qualify graduates for subsequent entry into a PhD.

Master of Science (Exploration Geoscience) – Offered by CODES
Domestic and international students interested in a more substantial individual research component may opt for the Master of Science (Exploration Geoscience). For this degree, students complete 3 two-week coursework units (as above, CODES courses only) and a research thesis worth 75%. This degree is classified as Masters by Research (MSc ExGeo) and the UTAS course code is S8E. The entry requirement is a BSc(Hons) majoring in the geosciences.

Master of Science –Offered by CODES and the School of Earth Sciences
Domestic and international students can also undertake a research-only Master of Science degree (MSc). The entry requirement is a BSc(Hons) majoring in the geosciences.
