Generous scholarships are available to top-ranked national and international PhD candidates undertaking projects in line with research strengths of the School of Earth Sciences and CODES ARC Centre of Excellence in Ore Deposits (opens in a new page. Both are located at the University of Tasmania. 

The scholarships include a living allowance of AUD23,728 per annum that may be increased to AUD30,000 per annum for highly qualified applicants. International candidates may also be awarded a tuition fee scholarship (currently AUD19,864 per annum). PhD scholarships cover a maximum of 3.5 years of candidature, subject to annual performance review. Research project funding is also available.

Applications may be submitted at any time.

1. The first step is to establish contact with a potential supervisor and identify a project.
2. The candidate then completes the APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION AND SCHOLARSHIP for Higher Degree Research Candidature. View the application form (DOC 553KB) (opens in a new page).
   
3. This application requires supporting documents that include proof of citizenship status, a cv, transcripts of previous qualifications, and for international candidates, proof of English language proficiency. The completed form and scanned documents should be sent as an email attachment to the Graduate Research Co-ordinator, Professor Jocelyn McPhie (j.mcphie@utas.edu.au).
4. The candidate must also provide two referees with the Referee Report form (DOC 269KB) (opens in a new page).
5. Referees should send their reports directly to the Graduate Research Co-ordinator, Professor Jocelyn McPhie (j.mcphie@utas.edu.au). 
6. CODES and Earth Sciences staff will complete the application by providing a recommendation, and the application is then submitted by the Graduate Research Co-ordinator to the UTAS Graduate Research Office.
