(Assistant Research Officers)

Cadetships provide an excellent opportunity to work and gain experience in a central government agency whilst studying part-time for an appropriate tertiary degree.

HOW THE CADETSHIPS OPERATE

Whilst participating in the Cadet Program, Assistant Research Officers will rotate on a 12 monthly basis through the Department over a six-year maximum period and will be exposed to areas of economic, financial management and public policy.

Assistant Research Officers will be expected to undertake part-time studies in an appropriate degree course. Treasury will provide both financial and leave support to undertake the studies through the payment of University fees and time off to attend lectures and tutorials, but does not provide for payment of the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) fee.

Treasury Cadetships are administered using fixed-term employment contracts which are reviewed on an annual basis. Satisfactory academic results and satisfactory work performance are prerequisites for continuation of the Cadetship.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Assistant Research Officer will be required to provide varied research and administrative support across the agency to assist in the achievement of the Department's objectives.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The Assistant Research Officer will be required to carry out some or all of the following tasks:

  • Assist with research and analysis into economic, financial and public policy issues and assist in the preparation of reports and submissions;
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate and timely written correspondence;
  • Assist with the planning, development and implementation of financial management policies, processes and strategies;
  • Assist in developing and maintaining financial management systems and other databases;
  • Assist with project work as required;
  • Prepare and collate materials for meetings, conferences and seminars etc;
  • Provide administrative support to committees including the preparation and distribution of minutes; and
  • Contribute to branch outcomes and undertake other tasks as required.

Demonstrated capacity to: prepare accurate routine documentation and records; clearly convey information; and listen to others and respond appropriately.

Demonstrated capacity to complete assigned tasks under direct supervision and deliver with a stakeholder focus.

•  Conceptual, Analytical and Judgement

Demonstrated capacity to understand and solve routine problems relating to duties and make accurate decisions in relation to standard tasks under specific direction.

•  Leadership and People Skills

Demonstrated capacity to display initiative and a commitment to the Treasury Values and State Service Principles.

•  Technical/Professional

Possesses the professional or technical skills needed to perform the position objective, primary duties and responsibilities of a Cadet.

•  Qualifications and Requirements

Successful completion of Year 12.

REMUNERATION

Cadetship positions are classified under the Administrative and Clerical Employees Award and commencing salary is generally $24 500 per annum. Commencing salary may be higher depending on the amount of relevant University study already completed.

Continuation of the Cadetship, which is subject to an annual review of academic results and work performance, will see Cadet's salary advance annually, culminating in progression to $41 148 per annum on completion of the Cadetship.

Applications are invited from individuals who have recently completed Year 12 or have recently commenced University and wish to pursue a career in accounting and financial management, economics or public policy.
